Affordable housing, such as mobile and manufactured homes, offer middle and lower income residents the opportunity to become home owners. However, people who live in manufactured or mobile homes are also vulnerable during extreme climate events. People living in mobile homes account for approximately half of all deaths from tornadoes. Older manufactured housing is not energy efficient, leading to higher utility costs during extreme heat or cold weather events, increasing the exposure to and health impacts from these extreme temperatures.
